Gastrostomy and Tracheostomy Care and Management

A clinical training day aimed at health care workers involved in the care of patients with a gastrostomy and/or a trachestomy. The day provides knowledge and practical skills to develop a high standard of care.

• Gastrostomy -

- Anatomy and applied physiology

- Infection control and prevention

- Early detection of complications

- National standards and best practice

- Enteral feeding

- Routine change including practical session

- Troubleshooting

- Keeping accurate records

• Tracheostomy -

- Applied anatomy and physiology

- Infection control and prevention

- Indications for tracheostomy

- Complications of tracheostomy

- Fitting, managing and changing a tracheostomy tube

- Practical session

- Communication and care of a patient with a tracheostomy tube

- Developing a patient pathway for a patient with either a gastrostomy and tracheostomy tube

- Keeping accurate records
