This course is offered at Level 3 (Degree) and Masters level and is delivered at our Glenside Campus. The module forms part of the overall Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN) Programme and is compulsory for Occupational Health Nursing students. However, due to the wide-ranging and practical content, it is open to and will be of interest to anyone with an interest in health and wellbeing at work, particularly Occupational Health, Public Health, Human Resources and Health and Safety professionals.

Course content includes:

  • The theoretical frameworks for workplace health and wellbeing programmes
  • The public health, economic and legislative drivers
  • Leadership of workplace health and wellbeing programmes
  • Current evidence related to cost v business benefit implications of health promotion and workplace health and wellbeing interventions
  • The organisational factors and individual needs that impact on employee health and wellbeing
  • The role of Occupational Health services
  • Sickness absence management and fitness for work assessment
  • Stress management
  • Health and safety risk assessment and management
  • Individual and workplace health needs assessment
  • The workplace as a setting for health promotion
  • The workplace and the wider community.

Delivery:

Five days attendance, (two blocks of two days and one assessment day), with additional directed and self-directed study between attendance days.
