This half day course is a very practical way for commissioners across health and social care to work on developing outcomes-based specifications. It will cover writing the specification, developing key indicators, and agreeing measurement tools.

Using a mix of good practice examples, and small group exercises, this course provides delegates with the knowledge and skills to deliver and measure future commissioning and procurement in an outcome-focused context.


Outcome:

By the end of this session participants will:

  • be able to explain the difference between inputs, outputs and outcomes
  • understand the role of an outcomes framework
  • know how to present prospective providers with a clear, accurate and full description of needs, enabling them to propose an outcome-based solution
  • have practiced creating service outcomes that are precise and measurable
  • have considered specifications in the context of joint commissioning
  • understand different tools and techniques for setting and measuring KPIs, for community level outcomes and service level outcomes
