This e-learning course will provide you with a thorough understanding of the framework surrounding the law, regulation and social responsibility related to the sale of alcohol. This is especially important since alcohol can lead to violence, nuisance and underage drinking.

My Training Academy is pleased to offer the Scottish Award for Licensed Premises Staff (SALPS). This course is designed to assist you in understanding your responsibilities as retailers of alcohol under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. Upon completion, the learner and an existing Personal Licence Holder must both sign the training record certificate and retain a copy.

Section 5 – The functions of Licensing Standards Officers

In this section, you will learn about:

  • The functions of Licensing Standards Officers
  • The powers of Licensing Standards Officers

Section 6 – The nature of an operating plan

In this section, you will learn about:

  • The nature of an operating plan and its place in the licensing system

Section 7 – Types of licence conditions

In this section, you will learn about:

  • National mandatory premises licence conditions
  • National mandatory occasional licence conditions

Section 8 – Clubs Section 125

In this section, you will learn about:

  • Special provisions for clubs under section 125 of the Act
  • Exemption of ‘certain clubs’ from parts of the LSA2005

Sections 9 – 12: Offences

Section 9 – Licensed hours under Part 5 of the Act

  • Exceptions to the offences in 9.2
  • Criteria for the grant of a 24-hour licence

Section 12 – Test purchasing

In this section, you will learn about:

  • What test purchasing of alcohol is and test purchasing activities

Section 13 – 16: Implementing legislation

Section 13 – Standards of service and refusing service - ‘best practice’

In this section, you will learn about:

  • Good service practice
  • Refusing service
  • Challenging proof of age
  • Explaining why you’re asking for a proof of age
  • Establishing empathy and the use of humour

Section 14 – The relationship between units and the strength of different alcoholic drinks

In this section, you will learn about:

  • The relationship between units and the strength of different alcoholic drinks

Section 15 – Drinking limits

In this section, you will learn about:

  • Drinking limits recommended by the British Medical Association

Section 16 – Conflicts

In this section, you will learn about:

  • Identifying signs of conflict
  • Dealing with aggressive or abusive responses
  • Resolving conflict and creating a ‘win-win’ situation

Exams and Accreditation Features:

  • This course is accredited by The CPD Standards Office and endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality and BIIAB.
  • Our Online test will be multiple choice. You can retake the test at no extra cost to improve your grade.
  • An accredited certificate is awarded upon completion which enable you to obtain certified CPD hours.

E-Learning Format

This eLearning is accessed through a dedicated learner portal. Your course material is presented in an interactive and easy to follow presentation enabling you to study at your own pace.

The course is divided into simple sections with a short quiz at the end of each to test your knowledge. Once you have progressed through each of the course sections you can complete an end of course quiz which consists of multiple-choice questions based on the material that you have studied.

Once you have passed the course you can download your fully accredited CPD certificate (PDF format) directly from your learning account.

Duration and Time Limit

The course takes approximately 2 hours to complete, although there is no time limit and you can do it in your own time and in stages.

Certificate

Completing this course is the perfect way to prove your knowledge. The certificate achieved is fully registered with the CPD Standards Office and endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality and BIIAB.

You don’t need to have any previous training to do this course.

In order to complete this course, you must achieve 70% or more in the final multiple-choice quiz.
