We recognise that an increasing number of people are being cared for in the community or a care setting with what is termed ‘complex care needs.’ There is no set definition for complex care and it’s unlikely that any two individuals will have the exact same needs. However, there are a range of clinical skills that you will need when working with someone with complex care needs. The Skills Platform offers a range of face-to-face and elearning courses to help you increase your knowledge and skills when working in this area. Topics covered include caring for someone with epilepsy, acquired brain injury (ABI) and spinal cord injury. Clinical skills include: tracheostomy care, non-invasive ventilation, catheter and bowel care, pressure care / tissue viability and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) feeding / care. Courses are available for registered nurses as well as health care assistants and support workers. Many training providers will create bespoke courses to suit your staff.
